Is your Google Business Profile actually complete?

Most profiles are half done: wrong categories, no services, old hours, three photos from 2019. 23 items cover everything a profile needs to show up in the map results and get the call.

Reviews and questions

Your checked items are saved only in this browser on this device. This tool does not connect to your Google account or submit anything. Work through the profile in one tab and tick items here.

General information only. Google changes what a profile can hold and how it ranks them. This list covers the fields and habits that matter as of the review date on this page; it does not connect to your account, and completing every item is not a guarantee of map rankings, which also depend on distance, reviews and competition.

About three minutes

Want it set up properly, once?

Tell me the business name and where it is. I will claim or recover the profile, fill every field, set up the review link and keep it maintained.

The background

The profile is the storefront now.

For a local search, the map results appear above the websites, and most people never scroll past them. The three things Google weighs are relevance (categories and services), distance, and prominence (reviews, photos, activity). You control two of the three.

Questions

Which category should be primary?

The one thing you most want to be found for, in Google's own wording. A tire shop that also does brakes is a Tire shop first, with Brake shop and Auto repair shop as secondary categories. Do not add keywords to the business name; Google suspends profiles for it.

How many reviews do I need?

More than the businesses around you, arriving steadily. Ten reviews this month beat a hundred from three years ago. Ask after every completed job with a link or a QR code, and reply to each one.

Why put UTM parameters on the website link?

So visits from the profile show up separately in Google Analytics. Without them, profile traffic is lumped in with other Google traffic and you cannot tell what the profile is producing.

What if the profile is owned by a former employee or agency?

You can request ownership through Google; the current owner has a few days to respond before Google reviews it. Suspended or duplicate profiles take some back and forth. I handle that process for clients.
